Crash and Burn

My server decided to crash Friday night. I haven't been having much luck with hardware lately. First I lost two processor fans in my server last month. It is an ALR Quad6 Server with four 200Mhz Pentium Pro processors. I know that is kinda old, but it works great as a low traffic web server. It is designed to run constantly, and I haven't seen it strain yet. It out performs the 400Mhz single processor machine that I used before it. Anyways, when the two processor fans died, I decided to just pull the processors out till I can find new fans. The server is now running on two processors and is still running without strain. At least it was until a hard drive killed out. I had been thinking about replacing the 10GB drive with a bigger one, but I barely use 1GB or so of space now. Well this is the push I needed to get a new drive. The worst part was that I hadn't backed up my site in almost a month, and I lost some files. The journal database was one of the causalities. Fortunately everything since the last backup was recovered through cache files. The site is now running on an old 350Mhz machine. It runs kinda slow cause there is a driver issue with the ethernet adapter, but it is either that or the 400Mhz machine with the reboot issue. Also, the file permissions are kinda strict cause I don't use this server often. I know that I could just pop in another network card and set the permissions, but it was easier to just disable the comments function since nobody uses it anyway. I may be running the backup server till Wednesday cause I have school work to do. Comments

It's been almost a year, did you ever get your Quad6 back online? Ever consider going to four PII Overdrives?

From: webmaster Replace one archaic processor with another? I thought about it, but I decided to just switch to a professional hosting company. The server has been back up since June. Also, I moved this site over to Verve Hosting back in December. Now the Quad6 is just used for backup and development. Comments are currently disabled due to abuse. Please email me.
