Can He Swim?
Posted on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 :|: Nobody cared enough to Comment

I went to a family gathering this weekend. We decided to have a pool party at my aunt's house. It was funny cause she knew about the gathering, but she didn't know it was at her house till the night before. I guess my cousins jus forgot to tell her that. Anyways, I ended up spending a good bit of time cleaning viruses and adware/malware off her computer.

I got kinda pissed off when it came time to swim. My mom didn't tell me that I was gonna have to watch my nephew, Andrew, in the pool until she dragged me away from the computer. She had told me to bring my swimsuit to the gathering, but she didn't bring hers. Andrew is three years old and hasn't spent much time around a swimming pool, so I was pretty much carrying him most of the time. The thing that pissed me off is that I am not a very good swimmer and they wanted me to swim out to the deep end with him. It was hard to keep our heads above water when I had to use one hand to hold him. I can barely swim normally and I had one hand tied up with extra weight. He even had a life jacket on and I still had trouble carrying him.

Of course, you should know from the title that this event wasn't accident free. First, Andrew tried to jump in the pool when I wasn't looking. I was standing right at the line where the pool gets deep, so I slipped when I pulled him out. Later one of my cousin's kids, who is three or four years old, slipped into the deep end and fell out of his tube float. I turned and looked at him after I saw his float shoot off out of the corner of my eye. I asked, "Can he swim?" I was about to jump in cause nobody answered, but another cousin turned around and picked him up.

Despite the scares I still had fun. Also, Andrew practiced swimming a little before the day was over. Overall it was a good experience.
