Love Those Holidays
Posted on Tuesday, December 02, 2003 :|: Nobody cared enough to Comment

I had a great holiday weekend. Thursday I was supposed to go to my family thanksgiving get together in Little Rock, but my mom and nephew were sick so we stayed home and had our own thanksgiving dinner. It wasn't bad. We had a good feast, but I usually get to see my relatives only two times a year and I just missed one of them.

To follow that, I was supposed to go over to my mom's house Friday and help decorate for x-mas. That's not exactly something I care for, but I said I would help. As I was on my way over to her house my truck broke down. One of the pulleys has been making noise for the past month and it finally gave out. I was less than a mile away from her house when it happened.

Saturday I got my dad to take me around looking for the part. My truck has an idler pulley and a tensioner pulley (Most engines have one or the other). Everybody kept pulling out the tensioner pulley, which is a good bit smaller and didn't have the bolt on it. They all said, "That's what the computer has listed." We drove around for a couple of hours trying to find the right part. We tried almost every auto parts company in Memphis and still couldn't find the part. We decided to wait till Monday and try the dealership.

I spent all day Sunday praying to the porcelain gods cause I got too drunk Saturday night. That was my own fault, but it was still part of the bad weekend.

Monday I went to the dealership and got the part. As I was trying to tighten the bolt, the wrench slipped off and I banged my elbow really hard, thus stretching the bad weekend into this week.

All this gave me something to be thankful of. Among other things, it makes me thankful of my truck, cause without it I'd be lost. And I guess things could have been worse. I've got a friend who spent his holiday weekend in prison. Of course he should be thankful that he only got four months. It could have been much worse for him too.
